The ministers of these Four Kings patrol the world on the eighth day;
The princes of the Four Heavenly Kings observe the world on the fourteenth.
The fifteenth is the most excellent time; having good renown,
The Four Kings themselves travel through the world to observe all good and evil.
If the minds of the people of this world accord with the Path and Dharma,
And there are many virtuous and venerable ones who practice giving and receive the bodhisattva [vows],
Who subdue anger, are able to cultivate the Path, and whose men and women increase in merit,
At that time the Trāyastriṃśa devas gain faith and rejoice greatly;
Time and again they give rise to sympathetic joy: 'The Four Great Kings have spoken well!
The delightful retinues of the devas will progressively increase;
May the companions of the asuras decline day by day!'
As they wish, they are mindful of the Samyaksaṃbuddha, the Dharma properly taught, and the Āryasaṃgha.
The devas abide in peace and happiness, their minds constantly giving rise to joy.
Mundane fruits and supramundane fruits can be attained in the human realm;
Being devoted to the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Saṃgha, they abide in the domain of the Three Jewels.
I now explain for you all the path of the three virtuous and good:
If a person seeks reality, abandons evil, and cultivates good,
They possess such treasure, whereby from a little they can obtain much.
Like the Trāyastriṃśa devas who practiced minor good and were born in heaven;
Śakra and the other devas of great merit and renown,
Gather in the Hall of the Good Dharma and other dwellings;
The good practices of men and women are reported by the Four Kings,
Loved by the pure devas, their fragrance permeating throughout the heavens.
