In the Tang dynasty, the rebel Zhang Liang was formerly the Area Commander of Youzhou. While worshipping at Zhiquan Temple, he saw a great statue with fully perfected marks and signs, and thereupon made special offerings to it. Once, Liang encountered a thunderbolt; a splinter of wood from a hall pillar struck the corner of Liang's forehead, yet he was not severely injured. When he went to the temple to pay homage to the statue, a broken spot was visible on the statue's forehead. This event is in the Mingbao ji. Furthermore, during the Zhenguan reign, traces suddenly appeared around the neck of this statue, as large as a thread. When people of the time saw it, they all considered it an inauspicious omen. Before long, Liang was indeed executed for his crimes. The mark remains visible today. (From the Mingbao shiyi ji.)
