On the last day of the sixth month in the first year of the Baoding era of Wu, the mother of Xuan Qian of Danyang was eighty years old. She too, because of bathing in a pond, transformed into a soft-shelled turtle, her appearance being like that of the Huang woman. Qian and his three brothers closed the doors to guard her. They dug a large pit in the hall and poured water into it. The turtle went into the water and swam about. For a day or two, it constantly extended its neck and looked out, waiting for the door to open slightly; it then spun around, leapt forward into the deep pool, and never returned.
