First, 'mindfulness of the Buddha' means with concentrated essence to be mindful of the physical marks of the Buddha, the Tathāgata, complete in merit, boundless in physical presence and wisdom, fully knowing his movements, coming and going. Cultivating this single dharma will of itself lead to nirvāṇa. Never departing from mindfulness of the Buddha, one then obtains merit. This is termed 'mindfulness of the Buddha.'
