'The Buddha told Ānanda: “There are three kinds of robes. The first is the robe of one who has left home, made according to the rules and forms of the Buddhas of the three times. The second is the secular robe: I enjoin that when my disciples proceed to the bodhimaṇḍa, they should wear this one garment, always keeping it on their person without departing from it by an inch. If they part from this robe, they commit an offense that obstructs the path. The third robe consists of the secular garment brought to the bodhimaṇḍa and constantly used for sitting and rising. Their names are such; you should accept and uphold them.”'
