In the early Jin, Zhu Changshu previously had a śarīra and valued it deeply. His son became a śramaṇa named Fayan. Often wishing to return to secular life, he laughed and said, "Śarīra are merely sand and stones; how are they worthy of value?" The father cast it into water; [surrounded by] five colours, it circled three times, its light several feet high. Seeing this manifestation, [Fayan] gave rise to faith and in the end did not return to secular life. When Changshu was about to die, he again gave rise to worldly thoughts, immediately fell sick and exhausted, and in the end died as a śramaṇa. The śarīra was enshrined in the stūpa of Jiangxia.
