Furthermore, the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra states: Bodhisattvas are accomplished in immeasurable and inexhaustible merit; making an offering of a single [bowl of] food to the Buddhas and Saṃgha of the ten directions, all are fully satisfied, and yet it is not exhausted, just as a gushing spring wells forth without running dry. Like Mañjuśrī making an offering of a single bowl of modaka sweets to eighty-four thousand monks, all were fully satisfied, and yet it was not exhausted. Furthermore, when a bodhisattva here makes an offering of a single bowl of food to the Buddhas of the ten directions, the implements of food and drink abundantly appear before the Buddhas of the ten directions, just as when hungry ghosts obtain a single mouthful of food from a human, it appears ten million times greater.
