‘If any dānapatis, whether monastic or lay, invite the field of merit that is the saṃgha to make vows, they should enter the monastic quarters and ask the administrator. If they invite in order, they immediately obtain the noble saṃgha of the ten directions. But worldly people specifically inviting a saṃgha of five hundred arhats and bodhisattvas does not equal one ordinary monk invited in the order of the saṃgha. If one specifically invites monks, that is a method of non-Buddhists; the seven Buddhas have no practice of specific invitations, which does not accord with filial piety. If one deliberately invites monks specifically, one commits an infraction of light defilement.’
