Now, the Three Jewels are impartial and vast like empty space; in principle they know neither resentment nor intimacy, and in actuality transcend the noble and base. Therefore, in accordance with one's capacity and with sincere devotion, one makes offerings universally within and without, striving to discard conceptual attachments and aspiring to universal arousal. Thus of old, the Mother of Viśākhā specifically invited five hundred arhats, but the Tathāgata reproached her and clearly expounded impartiality. Hence we know that when the mind is without limit, it reaches across the ten directions; when wealth is neither much nor little, the mind encompasses the dharmadhātu.
