Not by wealth or possessions
Is satisfaction of desires perceived.
Pleasure is scant and suffering is abundant;
The wise do not pursue them.
Even amidst the five desires,
One ultimately finds no delight in them.
When cravings are exhausted, one attains joy;
Such a one is a disciple of the Triply-Enlightened One.
When greed and desire flare up fiercely,
In the end one enters hell.
Where do original desires arise?
Life is oppressed by suffering.
All dharmas are impermanent;
Those that arise must perish.
All things born are subject to destruction;
Their cessation is the supreme joy.
