Now, the sage benefits beings by scrutinizing cognitive objects and observing the mind, tuning consciousness and emotion at the place of jewels, and operating between the provisional and the real within the city of delusions. Therefore, unless scrutiny relies on wisdom, there is no way to fathom the real; unless wisdom relies on scrutiny, there is no way to discern its illumination. Thus, the source of illumination and discernment is the essential pivot of careful scrutiny. Hence, there are no phenomena not conditioned upon, no objects not scrutinized. Only after conditioning upon phenomena and scrutinizing objects does one know that they converge toward profound efficacy and mutually nurture all phenomena.
