According to what is taught in the Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra: Asuras' clothing and food are spontaneous; their caps, ribbons, and robes are made purely of the seven precious substances, fresh and pure like those of the devas. The food and drink they consume appear according to their thoughts, all possessing the hundred flavors and identical with those of the devas. As the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra states: Although their clothing and food surpass those of humans, when they eat, it is not as good as humans'. That is to say, whenever they eat, the very last mouthful must turn into blue mud. Just as when a nāga king, although eating the hundred flavors, finds that the very last mouthful must turn into a toad, therefore the sūtras state that it is not as good as humans'.
