The Sūtra of One Hundred Parables says: For example, a jackal was under a tree, and the wind blew and broke a branch, which fell on his back. He immediately closed his eyes, unwilling to look at the tree, abandoned it, and ran to the open ground, refusing to return even until sunset. Seeing from afar that the wind blew the branches of the great tree, swaying them up and down, he said, 'It is calling me to return under the tree.' A foolish disciple is also like this: having gone forth from home and attained proximity to his teacher, upon a slight reprimand he runs away; then at a later time, encountering bad acquaintances who vex and disturb him unceasingly, he finally returns to his teacher's place. Coming and going like this is sheer folly and delusion.
