Namo buddhāya, namo dharmāya,
Namo saṅghāya! I pay homage to the Buddha, the World-Honoured One,
The Great Dharma King who illuminates the world.
In Jambudvīpa
He first preached the divine dhāraṇī,
The pure and supreme Dharma of ambrosia.
I also pay homage to the non-attached Saṅgha,
And having paid homage to the Muni's feet,
I instantly speak these verses:
World-Honoured One, the Tathāgatas,
Śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas,
All ṛṣis and world-protecting kings,
Mighty dragons and heavenly spirits—
All such multitudes
Are born among humans.
There are yakṣas and rākṣasas
Who constantly delight in devouring human embryos.
Beyond the realm of human kings,
They cannot be subdued by strong force.
They can cause people to be childless
By injuring and harming the womb.
When men and women unite,
They cause their minds to be deranged
So that pregnancy does not succeed,
Or in the stages of kalala or arbuda,
Leaving them childless by injuring the fetus,
And taking its life at the time of birth.
All of these are evil demons
Creating disturbance and harm.
I shall now proclaim their names;
May the Buddha listen to what I speak.
