During the reign of the First Lord of Wu, Lu Jingshu was the Grand Protector of Jian'an. He sent men to chop down a large tree. After a few blows of the axe, blood suddenly came forth. When the tree was severed, there was a creature with a human head and a dog's body that ran out from a hollow in the tree. Jingshu said: 'This is called a Penghou.' They boiled and ate it, and its flavour was like dog.
