As the Qishi jing states: The Buddha said: “Suppose there were a Kośalan bushel measure filled with twenty bushels of sesame seeds, heaped high and unlevelled. Suppose a man, whenever a full hundred years elapsed, were to remove one sesame seed; in this manner successively, whenever a full hundred years elapsed, he were to take another seed and cast it elsewhere. When he had cast out all the sesame seeds filling the twenty bushels, I say that their lifespan during that span of time would still not be exhausted. Let us calculate it provisionally with these numbers: a lifespan of twenty Arbudas equals one Nirarbuda lifespan; twenty Nirarbuda lifespans equal one Ahaha lifespan; twenty Ahaha lifespans equal one Hahava lifespan; twenty Hahava lifespans equal one Aṭaṭa lifespan; twenty Aṭaṭa lifespans equal one Saugandhika lifespan; twenty Saugandhika lifespans equal one Utpala lifespan; twenty Utpala lifespans equal one Kumuda lifespan; twenty Kumuda lifespans equal one Puṇḍarīka lifespan; twenty Puṇḍarīka lifespans equal one Padma lifespan; twenty Padma lifespans equal one antarakalpa.”
