Furthermore, because of ill will and vexation, one harbors crooked perversity and does not believe in the right path. Having wrong views in this life, one obstructs others from hearing the Dharma, recites the sūtras without personally absorbing them, and upon death will fall into the Hell of Deafness and Folly, suffering all manner of distress and pain throughout long kalpas. When this suffering is completed, one falls among animals: hearing the sounds of the Three Jewels and the Four Noble Truths, they do not recognize them as good; hearing the sounds of slaughter and flogging, they do not recognize them as evil. Amidst this, they undergo immeasurable births and deaths. Through original karmic causes and conditions, if one encounters a minute amount of good, one may feebly regain a human body, but when born among humans, one is deaf and blind, unable to hear, no different from a stone wall, completely unconscious of fine speech and good sounds. One should know that obstructing the hearing of the Dharma stems entirely from wrong views.
