Then the brahmin dream-interpreters said to the great king: "The marks in the queen's dream are extremely good. The Great King should now congratulate himself: the one born to the queen will surely be a holy son. In the future he will certainly accomplish the Buddha path, and his renown will reach far." King Śuddhodana, hearing the dream-interpreters recite this verse, rejoiced greatly in his heart and gave lavish gifts of wealth. When King Śuddhodana heard these physiognomists examine the queen's dream and declare it to be an auspicious omen, after this divination he immediately established a great unrestricted gathering of giving outside the four gates of the city of Kapilavastu in that country, as well as at intersections, street corners, and crossroads where people walked, giving all food, drink, treasures, houses, and livestock that were needed. Furthermore, Asita was an ascetic with five supernormal knowledges. Hearing that the Bodhisattva with right mindfulness had descended from Tuṣita Heaven to King Śuddhodana's palace and into the queen's right flank, when he entered the womb he emitted a great light that illuminated all worlds of humans and devas everywhere; thereafter, this great earth shook in full with the six kinds of eighteen marks. Asita, seeing this unprecedented occurrence, was terrified at heart, all his hair standing on end: "What is the cause now for this great earth to shake? What karmic result is this?" That ascetic reflected for a short while and then paused, his heart giving rise to immeasurable and uncontrollable leapings of joy. He uttered this exclamation: "Rare, Great Sage, inconceivable! A great puruṣa will appear in the world!" Furthermore, when the Bodhisattva first descended from Tuṣita and, having entered his mother's right flank, completed his conception, a god named Vegadhārin went to the hells and cried out in a loud voice: "You people, all should know! The Bodhisattva has now descended from Tuṣita Heaven and entered his mother's womb. Therefore, you should swiftly make vows, aspiring to be born in the human world!" When the hell-beings heard these words, all beings who from the past onward had planted good roots yet committed mixed karma, and who had fallen into hell because of the preponderance of evil, saw each other's faces and grew weary of hell; they obtained light, becoming peaceful and happy in body and mind; and hearing the voice of Vegadhārin among the devas of the world, they cast off their hell bodies and were immediately born among humans. All those sentient beings in the trichiliocosm who from the past onward had planted good roots came to take birth around this city of Kapilavastu on all sides.
