Furthermore, the Ekottarika-āgama says: "If someone is lazy and lax, planting unwholesome deeds, there will be loss in his affairs. If one can refrain from being lazy and lax, this is most exquisite. Why is this? Bodhisattva Maitreya was destined to become a Buddha after thirty kalpas; by the power of my vigour and a courageous mind, I caused Maitreya to become a Buddha after me. For this reason, you should mindfully practice vigour and have no laziness."
