Furthermore, the Mahāratnakūṭa-sūtra states: The fourth [perfection], vigor, has ten recollections: first, recollecting the Buddha's immeasurable merit; second, recollecting the Dharma's inconceivable liberation; third, recollecting the Saṃgha's purity and freedom from defilement; fourth, recollecting the practice of great loving-kindness to establish sentient beings; fifth, recollecting the practice of great compassion to rescue beings from all sufferings; sixth, recollecting those of the correctly determined group to encourage them joyfully to cultivate good; seventh, recollecting those of the wrongly determined group to rescue them and make them return to the origin; eighth, recollecting the hunger, thirst, heat, and torment of the hungry ghosts; ninth, recollecting the animals' prolonged endurance of various sufferings; tenth, recollecting the hells' full experience of burning and boiling. When a bodhisattva contemplates the merit of the Three Jewels through these ten recollections with single-minded, undisturbed focus, this is called vigor of right mindfulness.
