Then, having spoken this dhāraṇī, the World-Honoured One addressed Śāriputra: "This divine dhāraṇī was spoken by immeasurable Buddhas of the past. I too speak this dhāraṇī now in the present. In the future, the bodhisattva Maitreya of the Bhadrakalpa will also proclaim it. The merit of such a divine dhāraṇī is like [that of] the Lord of the Devas. It can cause all evil monks in the final five hundred years to attain pure minds and intentions, and harmoniously and successfully cure increases and decreases of the four great elements. It also cures within the mind the ninety-eight proclivities, the seeds of sexual desire, that arise from the four hundred and four ailments and four hundred and four vessels and destroy the realms. It also cures karmic hindrances and all evils of breaking the precepts, extinguishing them forever without remainder. This is called the 'Dhāraṇī That Well Cures the Seventy-two Kinds of Ailments, Worries, and Afflictions'. It is also called the 'Dhāraṇī That Uproots the Root of Ignorance in the Five Aggregates'. It is also called 'Directly Seeing All Buddhas and Śrāvakas Expounding the True Dharma to Destroy the Proclivities of All Dharmas'."
