"All things are impermanent;
I regret only that I did not feed the lion.
Alas, that I should die in a deserted well,
Clinging to life and dying without merit!
Dying without merit is already regrettable,
And now I pollute the water used by humans.
I repent before the buddhas of the ten directions,
Praying that they look down and illuminate my mind:
May all bad retributions from previous lives
Be paid in full in the present life;
From this, may I meet an enlightened teacher,
And through practice, completely attain buddhahood."
