Furthermore, the Mahāvaipulya Dhāraṇī Sūtra states: At that time, Mañjuśrī addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honored One, if after the World-Honored One passes away there is a bhikṣu who violates the four grave prohibitions, a bhikṣuṇī who violates the eight grave prohibitions, or a bodhisattva, a śrāmaṇera, a śrāmaṇerikā, an upāsaka, or an upāsikā who violates each of these various precepts, how should they eliminate such transgressions?" The Buddha said: "Excellent, Mañjuśrī, that you are able to inquire about such matters! Because your loving-kindness and compassion are supreme, you are able to formulate this question. Had you not asked this question, I would never have spoken of their evils. Listen closely now, and I will explain it for you. After I have passed away, if there is a bhikṣu of evil discipline who violates the four grave prohibitions, silently receives offerings, and does not repent and reform, you should know that this bhikṣu will certainly suffer the torments of hell, without doubt. I will now bring forth good medicine to rescue that bhikṣu. Listen closely now, and I will explain it for you.
