Furthermore, the Nirvāṇa Sūtra says: When the Bodhisattva was first born, he walked seven steps in each of the ten directions. The great spirit-generals Māṇibhadra and Pūrṇabhadra held banners and canopies. Countless and boundless worlds trembled. A golden radiant glow filled the sky. The Nāga King Nanda and Upananda used supernatural powers to bathe the Bodhisattva’s body. The images of the devas welcomed him and bowed down in reverence. The rṣi Asita folded his hands in respect. In his prime, [the Bodhisattva] renounced desire as though casting aside spittle, undeluded by worldly pleasures. He left household life to practice the Path, delighting in solitude. To shatter wrong views, he practiced austerities for six years. Toward all sentient beings, he was impartial and non-dual. His mind was constantly in samādhi, never scattered from the beginning. His body was adorned with magnificent marks and signs. Wherever he walked, mounds and ruins were flattened. His robes stayed four inches away from his body and did not fall. When walking, he looked straight ahead without glancing left or right. Of the food he ate, nothing remained whole. Where he sat and stood, the grass was not disturbed. To tame sentient beings, he went forth to teach the Dharma, his mind without arrogance.
