The *Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra* says: The Tathāgata possesses the mark of the Brahma-voice. Like the king of the Brahmā heavens, five kinds of sounds emerge from his mouth: first, extremely deep like thunder; second, clear and resonant, heard afar, causing those who hear it to rejoice; third, penetrating the mind with reverence and affection; fourth, accurate and easily understood; fifth, heard by listeners without satiety. Bodhisattvas also have these five kinds of sounds emerging from their mouths. The kalaviṅka-like vocal mark is lovely, and like the sound of a heavenly drum it is deep and far-reaching.
