The commentary states: Having received the fast, if one wishes to conclude the fast, one must wait until the appearance of dawn light before one is permitted to eat gruel. Otherwise, one breaks the fast. What is called the dawn light? As the *Sarvāstivāda-śāstra* says: The dawn light has three kinds of colours. When the sun shines on the jambu trees, there is black. When it shines on the tree leaves, there is blue-green. When it passes beyond the tree leaves, there is white. Among the three colours, white is the correct one; only then is one permitted to conclude the fast and eat the gruel.
