Under the Han, an attendant of Wang Ji would often approach a maidservant in the dark to fetch Ji's clothes and belongings. The maidservant wished to have illicit relations with him, but the man said he dared not. The maidservant said: 'If you do not comply with me, I will scream loudly.' In the end, the man refused. The maidservant then cried out: 'So-and-so wanted to rape me!' Ji immediately ordered that he be killed. The man pleaded his case in full, but Ji still did not believe him, and thus had him dragged away. Turning back, he said to Ji: 'Injustice cannot be endured; I will surely bring suit against your lordship in Heaven.' Later, Ji fell ill, and suddenly saw this man, who said to him: 'Earlier I reported the full truth, but since you did not discern justice, now you must go.' Ji died a few days later.
