'The horse you saw was a person in hell. In the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, he was a monastery attendant who appropriated offerings, eating more than his due share, or giving them to his kin and lay acquaintances. When the monks reproved him, saying, "You should not do this," the man abusively scolded the monks, saying, "You are just like horses, eating constantly without ever being full! I work extremely hard for the Saṃgha, and my labour deserves this." Therefore, he entered hell, took the body of a horse, and has his body burned by fire, enduring great anguish without ceasing down to the present day.'
