Furthermore, the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* states: "Bodily vigor is lesser; mental vigor is greater. External vigor is lesser; internal vigor is greater. Moreover, the Buddha taught that the power of mental karma is great, just as when a ṛṣi becomes angry, he can cause a great country to be obliterated. Moreover, for committing the five inexpiable offenses with body and speech, the great retribution is one kalpa in the Avīci Hell; whereas through the power of mental karma, one can be born in the realm of neither-perception-nor-non-perception, with a lifespan of eighty thousand great kalpas, and also in the Buddha-lands of the ten directions, with an immeasurable lifespan. For this reason, the vigor of body and speech is lesser, while the vigor of mind is greater." In this manner, various sūtras extensively praise vigor; with single-minded correct mindfulness one quickly attains the fruits of the Way, without necessarily requiring broad learning. Furthermore, the *Vibhāṣā-śāstra* states: "It is like two men traveling together to a certain region: one rides a swift horse and one rides a slow horse. Although the latter rides a slow horse, because he set out earlier, he arrives first. A person who is liberated through faith, by diligently practicing vigor, arrives first at nirvāṇa—just like Panthaka and the others."
