Furthermore, the *Liudu ji jing* states: "The Buddha told the disciples: 'You must be diligent in vigor, in hearing, reciting, and chanting, and never let yourselves be covered by laxity and the hindrance of drowsiness. I recall that in the past, countless kalpas ago, there was a Buddha named King Who Delivers All. Eloquent in Vigor heard the sūtra and rejoiced; he immediately attained avaivartika and became complete in supernormal faculties. Delight in Virtue's Stillness fell asleep and lacked awareness, so that he alone gained nothing. Then Eloquent in Vigor said to Delight in Virtue's Stillness: "You should be diligent in vigor; how can you sleep?" Then Delight in Virtue's Stillness, hearing his instruction and summons, immediately engaged in walking meditation, but again paused to sleep, unable to settle himself. He went to the side of a spring and sat down, intending to contemplate in dhyāna, but sleepiness arose once more. At that time, Eloquent [in Vigor] went to deliver him by means of skillful expedients. He transformed himself into a king bee, flying toward his eyes as if about to sting him. Then [Delight in] Stillness was startled awake and sat up, fearing this king bee, but in a short while he slept again. Then the bee flew beneath his armpit and stung him on his chest and abdomen. [Delight in] Stillness was startled, his heart pounded, and he did not dare to sleep again. At that time, in the spring water there were multicolored flowers of various kinds, fresh and pure. The king honeybee flew and rested atop a flower, consuming the taste of amṛta. Then [Delight in] Stillness sat upright and watched it, fearing its return and not daring to sleep again. The king bee consumed the taste without leaving the flower. After a short while, the king bee fell asleep and dropped into the foul mud. Having bathed its body, it flew back again and rested atop the flower. Then [Delight in] Stillness recited a gāthā to the bee, saying:'
