Furthermore, the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa states: "There are two kinds of samādhis: first, the samādhis of the Buddhas; second, the samādhis of the bodhisattvas. These bodhisattvas attain mastery only in the samādhis of bodhisattvas, not in the samādhis of the Buddhas." Furthermore, it is said in the Sarvabuddhaviṣayāvatāra-sūtra: At that time, Mañjuśrī wished to see the assembly of Buddhas, but was unable to reach it. When each of the Buddhas had returned to their own lands, Mañjuśrī arrived at the place where the Buddhas had assembled. There was a woman sitting near that Buddha who had entered into samādhi. Mañjuśrī entered and prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and then addressed the Buddha, saying: "Why is this woman permitted to sit near the Buddha while I cannot?" The Buddha told Mañjuśrī: "Awaken this woman and cause her to arise from her samādhi, and you may ask her yourself." Mañjuśrī then snapped his fingers to awaken her, but she could not be awakened. He called out with a great voice, but she still could not be awakened. He took her hands and shook her, yet she could not be awakened. Furthermore, by his supernormal power he shook the great trichiliocosm, yet still she did not awaken. Mañjuśrī addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, I cannot cause her to awaken." At that time the Buddha emitted a great light into the realms below. Therein was a bodhisattva named Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin, who then emerged from below and came to the Buddha's place. Touching his head and face to the Buddha's feet in homage, he stood to one side. The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin: "Awaken this woman." He then snapped his fingers, and this woman arose from her samādhi. Mañjuśrī addressed the Buddha, saying: "For what cause and condition was I unable to make this woman arise though I shook the great trichiliocosm, whereas with a single snap of the fingers by the Bodhisattva Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin she arose from her samādhi?" The Buddha told Mañjuśrī: "It was through this woman that you first generated the aspiration for bodhi, and it was through the Bodhisattva Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin that this woman first generated the aspiration for bodhi. For this reason you could not awaken her. Your merit within the samādhis of the Buddhas is not yet complete. This Bodhisattva Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin has attained mastery within samādhi; you have only entered slightly into the samādhis of the Buddhas and have not yet attained mastery, and that is why."
