10.169

如華嚴經云。菩薩為求法故。能施法者。作是言。若能投身七刃火坑。當與汝法。菩薩聞此歡喜無量。作是思惟。我為法故尚不惜身命。於阿鼻地獄諸惡趣中。受無量苦。況入人間微小火坑。而得聞法。

As the Avataṃsaka-sūtra says: For the sake of seeking the Dharma, when one who can bestow the Dharma said to the Bodhisattva: "If you can cast your body into a fire pit of seven fathoms, I will give you the Dharma," the Bodhisattva heard this with immeasurable joy and reflected: "For the sake of the Dharma, I would not begrudge body or life, and would endure immeasurable suffering in the Avīci hell and other wretched destinies. How much more so entering a tiny fire pit among humans to be able to hear the Dharma!"
