If ordinary people perform these transgressions and merits, not understanding that cause and effect, good and evil, have no intrinsic nature, this is delusion regarding concrete phenomena. Grasping at intrinsic natures, they are perpetually bound to the three realms of existence. Therefore the Treatise on the Great [Virtue of] Wisdom says: 'For example, just as a fly lands on everything and only does not land on a flame, the attachment of sentient beings is also like this: they are attached in both wholesome and unwholesome phenomena, and even up to [the realm of] neither-perception-[nor-non-perception] they are also attached; they only do not attach to the great fire of the emptiness of intrinsic nature of the prajñāpāramitā.' By this it is proven and known: failing to see that good and evil have no intrinsic nature, they constantly transmigrate in the five destinies, which corresponds to sentient beings without Buddha-nature. This brief clarification from sūtras and treatises of ordinary beings' two actions of transgression and merit, being deluded about concrete phenomena and grasping at intrinsic natures, is concluded.
