First: If a person dies among humans and is born in the heavens, they see signs of joy in the intermediate state, like a white fine wool cloth hanging down and about to fall to the ground, delicate, soft, white, and pure. They see parks, groves, and flower ponds, and hear songs, dances, and playful laughter. Next they smell various fragrances and all delightful things, countless varieties harmoniously blending in delicate contact. Then they are born in the heavens. Due to wholesome karma, they immediately attain heavenly pleasure; smiling with cheerful delight, their complexion is pure. Even though relatives and brothers weep and wail, due to the auspicious signs they do not hear or see them, nor does their mind think of them. At the time of approaching death, the place of joy is first produced, resembling a heavenly body, just as an impression is formed from a seal. Seeing the superior celestial place, they immediately give rise to an object of affection and thus receive a heavenly body. This is called the first produced intermediate state.
