夫欲聽法。要須真心。敬法重人。至誠出離。不希人天。有為之法。故阿含經佛說偈云。
When one wishes to listen to the Dharma, one must have a true mind, respect the Dharma and revere the person [teaching it], and with utmost sincerity seek transcendence, not longing for human or heavenly conditioned states. Therefore, in the Āgama-sūtras the Buddha spoke a verse, saying:
