2.62

又善恭敬經云。佛言。若有比丘。雖復有夏。不能閑解如是法句。彼亦應當從他依止。所以者何。自尚不解。況欲與他作依止師。假令耆舊百夏比丘。而不能解沙門祕密之事。不解法律等。亦應說依止。

Furthermore, the Shan gongjing jing says: 'The Buddha said: "If there is a bhikṣu who, though he has many vassa, cannot thoroughly understand such Dharma phrases, he too should take dependence under another. Why is this? When he himself does not yet understand, how much less could he act as a preceptor for dependence to another? Even if he is an elder bhikṣu of a hundred vassa, yet cannot understand the esoteric matters of a śramaṇa and does not understand the vinaya and so forth, he too should be told to take dependence."'
