The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya also states: "When one wishes to bathe, have the monastery laborers sweep, sprinkle, and make the place clean, prepare firewood and charcoal, and ensure the warmth is moderate. Only then should the gaṇḍī be struck so that they know to enter the bath. Each person should use their waistband to tie their robes as a marker and place them on the clothes rack. When entering, one must not swing both arms; one should enter shielding oneself in front with one hand. If one wishes to rub down the teacher, one is free from transgression only after first announcing it. One must not raise both hands at the same time: one should first have one arm rubbed while covering oneself in front with one hand; next, rub the other arm. Once one hand and the rest of the body, inside and out, have been finished, shut the door and sit down to let the sweat and impurities come out. Measure the water used; one must not use excessive amounts. If one washes in pond water as one pleases, there is no transgression. Naked bathing in the open ground is not permitted. If the water reaches the waist or armpits, it may be used without transgression. Sitting in water up to the navel is also permissible. When finished, take one's own robes, put them on, and leave in an orderly manner."
