9.67

故知凡夫為惡雖少。後世深苦獲無邊報。如毒在心。人意不同。白衣營生不知顧死。然生不可保。死必奄至。尋此危命非朝則夕。俄頃之間凶變無常。徒修田宅愛戀妻兒。

Therefore we know that although ordinary people commit only a little evil, in future lifetimes they will undergo deep suffering and obtain boundless retribution. It is like poison in the mind; people's inclinations differ. Laypeople manage their livelihoods without considering death; yet life cannot be preserved, and death is sure to arrive suddenly. Examining this perilous life, if not morning then evening, in a fleeting moment calamitous changes occur without constancy. In vain do they cultivate fields and residences, clinging with love to wives and children.
