May I, with these ten great vows, pervade the realms of sentient beings and embrace all vows as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. If the realms of sentient beings could be exhausted, then my vows would be exhausted; however, because the realms of sentient beings can never be exhausted, these great vows of mine likewise can never be exhausted. Extensively liberating sentient beings throughout the boundless Dharma realm, I dedicate all roots of goodness that I cultivate toward unexcelled, correct enlightenment. May I be born before Maitreya Buddha, hear the pure Dharma, and realize the patience of non-arising. All roots of goodness cultivated throughout my entire life—whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down—I dedicate together with all sentient beings of the Dharma realm, so that before Maitreya Buddha we may swiftly attain non-retrogression. (Other methods of contemplative practice and buddhānusmṛti to behold the Buddha, the karma directed toward Amitābha, Maitreya, and so forth, are expounded at length in the ten fascicles of the Chanmen; here, canonical passages are cited directly to demonstrate [how to attain] rebirth).
