"'If one delights in reverse contemplation, one should gaze upward in sequence from the image's toes. First, contemplate the toes, fixing the mind exclusively on the five toes of the Buddha's feet. After one week, whether closing the eyes or opening the eyes, make them distinctly visible as the toes of a golden image. Next, contemplate the insteps of both feet, making them distinctly visible. Next, having contemplated the shanks, proceed in sequence up to the uṣṇīṣa. From the uṣṇīṣa, contemplate the face. If it is not distinct, repent again and spur oneself on with redoubled effort. Because of the purity of the precepts, one will see the face of the Buddha image clearly and distinctly, like a mirror of genuine gold. Having performed this contemplation, contemplate the white curl between the eyebrows, curling clockwise like a crystal pearl. When this mark is seen, one sees the Buddha's eyebrows and eyes like the painting of a divine artist. Having seen these things, next contemplate the light of the crown, making it clear and distinct. Contemplating these various marks in this way is called reverse contemplation.'"
