The Buddha told Ānanda: "If among future sentient beings there are those who attain this buddhānusmṛti-samādhi, one should teach such persons to guard body, speech, and mind, not to give rise to wrong views, and not to produce haughtiness. If they practice wrong livelihood and haughtiness, you should know that these persons are of supreme arrogance, destroying the Buddha-Dharma, causing many sentient beings to give rise to unwholesome minds, disrupting the harmonious Saṃgha, and showing bizarre wonders to delude the masses; they are companions of the evil Māra. Although such evil persons may still practice buddhānusmṛti, they lose the taste of the nectar [of Dharma]. Because of haughtiness, wherever such persons are reborn, their bodies will always be lowly and small, born into base and lowly families, adorned with poverty, all manner of decline, and immeasurable evil karma. Against such various numerous evils, one should guard oneself so that they never arise."
