"Then Delight in Virtue's Stillness, upon hearing what was spoken, immediately attained the forbearance of non-arising phenomena and acquired dhāraṇī. The Buddha told Ānanda: 'Eloquent in Vigor at that time was myself now; Delight in Virtue's Stillness was Maitreya. Because at that time I listened to the Dharma together with Maitreya, and Maitreya slept so that he alone gained nothing, had I not employed skillful expedients to rescue and deliver him, Maitreya would remain in birth and death down to this day, not yet having attained deliverance.'"
