Furthermore, the Avataṃsaka-sūtra says: When the Bodhisattva seeks the Dharma through such expedient means, among all precious treasures there are none he values or begrudges, nor does he consider these things difficult to part with. If he obtains a single phrase of the Dharma not previously heard, it is superior to obtaining a trichiliocosm filled with treasures. To obtain and hear a single verse is superior to attaining the status of a wheel-turning sage king, Śakra Devānām Indra, or King Brahmā. The Bodhisattva generates this thought: "For receiving a single phrase of the Dharma, even if the great trichiliocosm were filled with great fire, I would throw myself down from the Brahmā heaven above, let alone a small fire! I would even endure all the sufferings of all the hells to seek the Dharma, let alone the petty afflictions among humans!" For the sake of seeking the Dharma he generates such a mind; he always rejoices in the Dharma as heard, and is able to correctly contemplate it all.
