12.23

A person who has entered the Way and possesses shame and conscience, / holding the bowl to gather in sentient beings: / how could they indulge in the dust of desires / and submerge themselves in the five passions? / Having already abandoned the pleasures of the five desires, / casting them away without looking back, / how could one wish to obtain them again, / like a fool eating their own vomit? / When seeking desires, there is suffering; / when obtaining them, there is much fear; / when losing them, there is much feverish distress— / in none of them is there any place of joy. / Since all these afflictions are like this, / how can one abandon them? / By attaining the meritorious bliss of dhyāna, / one will not be deceived by them.
