14.32

“Worldly people are foolish and deluded;
they cling greedily to the five desires without letting go until death.
For this, in future lives,
they suffer immeasurable pain.
They are like a foolish person
who, coveting delicious fruit,
climbs a tree to eat it and refuses to come down in time;
others chop down the tree,
and only when the tree topples does he fall,
his body and limbs broken,
and he dies in agonizing pain.
The pleasure when obtained is meager;
the suffering when lost is great—
like a knife smeared with honey:
the one who licks it craves the sweetness,
unaware of cutting his tongue
and suffering great pain thereafter.”
