Also, the Sūtra on the Secret Essentials of Dhyāna says: “If there are any among the four assemblies who, within the Buddha's Dharma, covet without satiety for the sake of material gain, and for the sake of fame falsely commit evil; if in reality they do not practice dhyāna, but in body and speech are negligent, practicing negligent deeds, and for the sake of material gain say of themselves that they sit in dhyāna—such a bhikṣu commits a sthūlātyaya. If the time passes without confessing it and they do not repent of themselves, in an instant they immediately incur the thirteen saṅghāvaśeṣas. If one day or up to two days pass, one should know that this bhikṣu is a thief among men, a rākṣasa, a butcher; they will certainly fall into the evil destinies, having committed a grave transgression. If a bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī does not actually see white bones and yet claims to see white bones, and so on up to ānāpāna, that bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī deceives all gods, nāgas, ghosts, and spirits. These evil people are the brood of Māra Pāpīyas. For the sake of false speech, they say of themselves: ‘I have attained the contemplation of impurity up to the summit dharmas.’ After this person of false speech dies, faster than lightning or rain they will definitely fall into the Avīci Hell, with a lifespan of one kalpa. Emerging from hell, they fall among hungry ghosts for eight thousand years, eating hot iron pellets. Emerging from hungry ghosts, they fall among animals, their bodies constantly bearing heavy burdens, and upon dying their hides are flayed, passing through five hundred bodies. They are then reborn among humans, blind, deaf, mute, crippled, and afflicted with a hundred illnesses as their clothing. The suffering endured in this manner cannot be fully told.”
