Sixth, explaining that those who eat meat cannot even accomplish worldly incantations (mantras), let alone how could they possibly realize supramundane dharmas? Therefore, practitioners should not eat meat. As that sūtra says: 'If worldly masters of incantations holding wrong views eat meat, their incantations will not succeed. In order to accomplish even heterodox arts, they still do not eat meat; how much more so for my disciples, who, in seeking the Tathāgata's anuttara noble path and supramundane liberation, cultivate great maitrī-karuṇā and diligently engage in austerities, yet still fear they will not attain it! Where could there ever be such liberation attained as a reward for those foolish people who eat meat? Therefore, Mahāmati, in order to seek the bliss of supramundane liberation, my disciples should not eat meat.'
