Furthermore, the Aṅgulimālīya-sūtra says: 'Mañjuśrī addressed the Buddha, saying: "Bhagavat, is it because of the tathāgatagarbha that the Buddhas do not eat meat?" The Buddha said: "So it is. All sentient beings, transmigrating life after life through beginningless saṃsāra, have never failed to be one's father, mother, elder brother, younger brother, elder sister, or younger sister; like actors, they change and are impermanent. One's own flesh and another's flesh are the same flesh; therefore, all Buddhas do not eat meat." He further told Mañjuśrī: "The realm of all sentient beings and my realm are the same single realm. The flesh consumed is the same single flesh. Therefore, all Buddhas do not eat meat." The Buddha told Mañjuśrī: "If a cow dies naturally, and the cow's owner takes its hide to make leather shoes and gives them as an alms-offering to a person who keeps the precepts, should they be accepted or not? Not accepting them is the rule for a bhikṣu. If one accepts them, it is not compassionate; however, it does not break the precepts, because it is indirect and separated from the causes and conditions of killing."'
