Now, it is heard that the house of the three realms is truly a vessel of the four great elements; the spheres of the six dusts are the dwelling place of the five aggregates. Truly because of illusory constructs and false imaginations, confusion and inversions arise together, causing myriad sufferings to contend in entangling us, and a hundred anxieties to gather completely. Now that karmic retribution is ripe and life faces the wind-blown candle, sentient beings nevertheless cling greedily and remain unaware until death. For fear that [the dying], remaining in their old quarters, may fondly crave material goods and become attached to family and kin, the Buddha instructed that they be moved elsewhere, to arouse aversion and detachment, recognize that impermanence is about to arrive, and inspire them to produce correct mindfulness.
