'All things must end in exhaustion;
what is high will surely fall.
Among the living, none do not die;
all who have life are impermanent.
Sentient beings fall into finite existence;
all things are conditioned.
In all the worlds,
there is nothing that does not age and die.
This is the constant rule for sentient beings:
birth after birth, all return to death.
In accordance with the karma they have created,
guilt and merit bring their retribution.
Evil karma falls into the hells;
good karma is born in heaven.
Exalted practice is born in the good realms,
and attains untainted nirvāṇa.'
